sad event table

The work holds a moment in which something meant to gather people around it remains to itself, as if the meeting had already emptied out before it began. It operates like a proposition for an event with no audience, or perhaps one that has already taken place and remains only as a quiet trace. Within this tension, between presence and absence, and between expectation and disappointment, there is an attempt to hold a form of togetherness, one that never fully closes, that always leaves something suspended, unresolved. The sad event table belongs to this time. It makes present the sense that in this era every celebration is infused with sadness. Sadness is no longer momentary or external, it is basic, it accompanies everyday life, something we breathe. Within this, another possibility emerges: perhaps the way to survive is to understand that the celebration itself is sad. That the heaviness is not going anywhere. Sadness is fundamental, and this quiet unease, the guilt within celebration, will accompany us day by day.
