What is suppressed slips into the crevices. What slips must be brought to the surface. What doesn’t fear the surface speaks loudly. Komplot Brussels is proud to present rippling through, a duo exhibition with Ghent-based artist Natalija Gucheva and Antwerp-based artist Julia Tröscher. rippling through seeks the porous boundaries between our inner and outer ontology, approaching modes of imaging and imagining as active tools for accessing deeper layers of our emotional landscape. Through their video and installation practices, Gucheva and Tröscher engage in a meditative methodology, bringing about a potentially healing process by tapping into suppressed emotions and memories. Taking the intimate and the personal as a starting point, the exhibition simultaneously questions how internal messages resonate within a wider collective consciousness. Fueling the thinking-feeling process for this exhibition is the notion of autotheory, which explores the entanglement of subjectivity and criticality. Developing new works both together and in parallel, Gucheva and Tröscher experiment with autotheory in their own distinct yet interconnected ways. Natalija Gucheva often works with alter egos, a methodology that reflects lived experiences and the complexity of one’s own existence. In their work, personal memory, echoes of childhood, and repressed or painful emotional layers surface and take on bodily presence. Grief forms a central undercurrent in their practice, not as a fixed state, but as an active, transformative force that shapes embodiment and relationality. By inhabiting an internal voice, memories are not merely revisited but re-experienced, unfolding in the immediacy of the present and allowing moments of confrontation to emerge. Julia Tröscher draws from dream analysis, treating dreams as spaces of emotional and ecological transformation. Her work engages with subconscious forms of communication, where subtle signs and symbolic images surface from lived experiences as blurry visions within the mind. Through symbolism, often rooted in human-nonhuman encounters, Tröscher explores how ecological thinking unfolds not only as environmental awareness but as an embodied condition. In her practice, dreams emerge as a collective reflection and function as meeting grounds where inner emotional landscapes intertwine with broader ecological and social systems, revealing a universe shaped by porosity and transformation. Presenting an immersive installation with video and sensory elements at its core, the artists create a space for rippling through that invites the audience to enter into their emotional realms and experience relationality as something felt rather than explained. How can the personal and universal come together? What can sensibility reveal that language alone cannot?
