Yongju Kwon (b. 1977) is a sculptor based in Seoul and Paju. He has long focused on discarded objects, provisional structures, and materials and tools marked by the traces of labor, placing at the center of his practice the question of what makes form possible and what, in fact, holds things in place. More recently, working through bronze casting, he has turned to the processes by which form comes into being, and to the passageways, voids, supports, and residues that remain within it. Kwonâs work brings into view the layers of weight, condition, error, and judgment that make form possible. It asks sculpture to be read through structure, endurance, and the surfacing of what had remained latent or in the background.
