Fleeting Glance

Queer histories are rarely found in official archives. They persist through narratives, gestures and fleeting encounters, acting as cracks and ruptures within the normative. As ephemeral traces, they preserve memory and knowledge within a culture that often renders queer lives invisible. “Fleeting Glance” is dedicated to the transient gazes and unwritten stories of queer bodies in public spaces. Train stations were sites of queer desire: they offered anonymity and protection while remaining largely unreadable to a heteronormative society through subtle codes. Within this tension, Maik Gräf’s artistic practice unfolds as an experimental photographic and spatial investigation. Cyanotypes on fabric form the material basis. Textile surfaces become carriers of multilayered visual worlds in which bodies are overlaid, fragmented, and distorted. A temporary space emerges in which queer corporeality, desire, and memory become visible—while remaining fragile: a place where public and private intertwine, and waiting and looking take on new meanings.
